At the center of my practice is warmth and compassion. By staying present and engaged with clients, a supportive, empowering relationship develops and serves as the foundation for insight and change.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist, I view the individual within their embedded systems (families, friendships, romantic relationships, and the larger society) in which we live and love and how that influences our experiences, feelings, and behaviors. As a certified health coach, I take a holistic approach to working with clients, considering all parts of the mind, body, and spirit. I believe that we are all striving to feel connected to one another while, at the same time, comfortable in our own skin.
I am an interactive therapist, employing various schools of thought to help clients, including cognitive behavioral, collaborative, experiential, and mindfulness-based therapies. I am influenced by Virgina Satir's Growth Model, which uses the therapeutic relationship in an integrated, humanistic approach meant to empower clients and boost their self-esteem.
When working with couples, I use humor and collaboration to explore damaging patterns of interaction and attachment injuries while offering tools for healing and strengthening the relationship. I utilize techniques from the Gottman Method, Emotionally Focused, Solution-Focused, and Imago Therapy. We not only look at the existing complaints in the relationship, but we work to increase positivity and resiliency.
I often work with individuals and couples during pregnancy and postpartum, with training in maternal mental health through Postpartum Support International and childbirth education through Lamaze International. I am a certified Bringing Baby Home educator, working to support couples to strengthen their relationship and prepare for the transition to parenthood.
Certified as a Prepare-Enrich facilitator, I also specialize in premarital therapy, combining assessment techniques with fun and experiential methods.
I welcome individuals and couples from all walks of life.
